The Amprobe TL1500 test lead set contains two silicone-insulated lead wires, two standard probe tips, two alligator clips, and two spade lugs for connecting a compatible electrical test meter to a device in electrical testing applications. The 48" lead wires have silicone insulation to protect hands from shock and heat. The silicone insulation resists melting in hot environments and becoming brittle in cold ones, and it maintains flexibility better than polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation. The standard probe tips are held against the conductor during testing. The alligator clips (also called crocodile clips) have teeth that grip the conductor to provide a more secure, hands-free connection than the test probe tips. The clips are 3.15" long and have a 0.30" jaw opening. The spade lugs clamp to conductors with compression nuts or screws. The kit meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category IV installations up to 1,500V, which covers measurements at the source of the low-voltage supply, such as electricity meters and overcurrent protection devices). It also conforms to applicable European Conformity (CE) directives. The kit comes with a soft folding carrying case with a Velcro closure and pockets for organizing probes and wires. Folded, the pouch measures 4.5 x 7.0 x 0.25 inches (H x W x D). Unfolded, it measures 4.5 x 16.0 x 0.25 inches. A test probe, test lead, test prod, or scope probe transmits an electrical signal to a testing device for display and analysis. Designs range from simple test leads with probe-style or clamp-on tips to more complex oscilloscope probes and current detectors. Some test probes, such as basic test leads, have wires with tips for connecting to test equipment. Other test probes, such as voltage detectors, are built into the meter. Depending on what is to be tested, the probe might either be passive or have active parts that require external power to operate. Some probes require contact for testing, while some are capable of taking measurements from a distance. Some also have finger barriers, insulation, or other features to help protect the operator's hand from electrical shock and burns. Test probes are rated according to the amount of voltage, current, temperature, or other input they can measure. When choosing a test probe, the maximum amount of input that the probe can measure should match or exceed both the maximum amount that can be tested by the test equipment, as well as that of the property expected to be present in the application.
